Disneyland is expensive, and as Millennials we have to make the most out of our money.
For those of us who can’t afford the annual pass, a 1-Day Park Hopper ticket is GOLDEN. This ticket is your ONE DAY to endless memories (with your friends) at the Happiest Place on Earth!
In my several trips to Disneyland there are a few tips I’ve learned from the wonderful pixies I call my friends who were basically birthed at the park…
GET ON THAT FASTPASS GAME
A pass that gets me on the ride with a shorter than short line (a.k.a. basically like no line at all) especially when you see that the wait is 60+ minutes?! Y.E.S.
In the land of FASTPASSes, these are the rides that matter…
Disneyland – Big Thunder Mountain (my fav J) Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, and Splash Mountain.
California Adventure – Guardians of the Galaxy (the BEST ride EVER, honestly it’s better than Tower of Terror and I LOVED Tower), Radiator Springs Racers, Soarin’ Over California and Grizzly River Rapids.
Unfortunately, you’re limited. Which means you can only have a certain amount during a period of time before you can get another one… BUT those are PER PARK. You can go to California and get a FASTPASS for Guardians, then head over to Disneyland to get a pass for Space Mountain. *insert mic drop*
GO EARLY AND LEAVE LATE
Go early in the morning, I’m talking between 9 and 10am (yes I know, it’s hard to get up that early), but if not 11:30am will do. And stay late – basically till you have no choice but to leave because it’s 12:01AM and the park’s closed.
Coming early means FASTPASSes, less people, cooler temps & more time to experience the magic. Oh, and did I mention less people? Also, leaving late basically means the same thing, with the added bonus of fireworks.
TAKE A BREATHER AT CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE
DCA is the PERFECT place to take a much-needed break from the craziness that is Disneyland. (P.S. It’s my favorite park) Once you’ve had a magical morning at the happiest place on Earth, head over to the second happiest place and….
PIT STOP AT THE COVE BAR (21+)
This is a must, no joke! Go early… Like early afternoon, for those of us over 21. The drinks are GORGEOUS and very tasty J Trust me, it’ll be worth the wait!
Be sure to ask for shaded seating area, with a view of the Mickey’s Fun Wheel.
OR, the Alfresco Tasting Terrace!
MAP IT OUT
You know that saying, “Know Before you go”? Well, that relates to this situation. Get a game plan together, scout out the park ahead of time for the best route for optimum Disney time.
Basically, DOWNLOAD THE APP. From there, make a list of everyone’s ‘must-do’s’ and then strategize from there.
Keep in mind that even if you tend to wander away from the route or plan, that’s ok! Some of the best memories come from unexpected adventures!
SET A REMINDER
Make sure you don’t miss the RETURN time on your FASTPASS! I like to set reminders, just in case I’m having way too much fun. I want to make sure I come back. *insert the Rabbit from Alice & Wonderland*
SECOND TIMES THE CHARM
Watch the parade the SECOND time around! Recently on a trip, my friends and I got FASTPASSes for the new Guardians ride, but the return time wasn’t until around 9, which was during one of the parades…. We hustled to get back to DCA amongst the major crowd of parade viewers at Disneyland.
Guardians was legit! Definitely worth the wait, 5 stars! Anyways, by the time we got back, the FIRST parade was over. And that means… most people are leaving! Once people see the parade they’re ready to go home, which means that after the extravagant fireworks the park rapidly begins to empty.
By the time it’s past 10pm, the EXACT SAME parade comes around again, except this time… less crowds and a better view!
BYOF&W (A.K.A FOOD & WATER)
Pack snacks and tons of water!! Make a sandwich, bring an apple, pretzels – anything you like to eat that won’t be a pain to carry around.
Now, if you’re really in for a solid Disney experience, these are my extra tips…
BOOK A ROOM
The Disneyland Hotel is my absolute favorite! SO comfy, relaxing and magical! This will give you the opportunity to immediately rest your body after an exhausting day. Plus, the magical bedside lamp and lights of the Magic Castle will send you to sleep.
Plus, you can take a shower, have a relaxed morning and even chill by the pool before making the drive back!
SPLURGE ON A NICE DINNER IN DOWNTOWN DISNEY
This is the time after your DCA break, but before you embark on the journey back to finish the night off at Disneyland. Tortilla Jo’s is the spot, but if you’re feeling more vibes, then Jazz Kitchen ain’t bad.
Yes, these meals are a bit pricey, but compared to what you’d get inside the park these are worth more of your hard-earned money. I highly recommend the Fajitas at Tortilla Jo’s and a good margarita! Yummy!
P.S. Don’t forget those sunnies 😉
